Bucharest's Unirii Plateau Undergoes Major Reconstruction
Construction Begins on Bucharest's Unirii Plateau: Three-Year Project to Transform City Center Bucharest, Romania – June 10, 2025 – A major construction project has begun on the Unirii Plateau, a central area of Bucharest. The project, estimated to cost 800 million lei and last for three years, will involve extensive repairs to the plateau and improvements to the surrounding infrastructure. Initial work includes excavation and the creation of a temporary road to manage traffic flow during construction. "The work is necessary to address significant deterioration of the plateau," stated Cristi Cozmagic, a reporter for Kanal D, who provided an on-the-ground report. The project will also connect two important tram lines. While no traffic restrictions are currently in place, they are expected as the project progresses through its four phases. The completion of this project is expected to significantly improve the city center.
