Kyiv, Ukraine – A prominent Ukrainian educator, known online as 'Учителька української' (Ukrainian Teacher), has highlighted five critical parenting mistakes that can significantly impact a child's development and future success. In a recent video, the methodologist and certification expert, Svitlana Chernyshova, outlined common pitfalls for parents of schoolchildren, emphasizing their long-term consequences. Chernyshova's first point addresses the detrimental effect of discussing teachers negatively in a child's presence. 'For a child, parents are the greatest authority,' she states, explaining that such discussions signal to the child that respecting the teacher is optional, thereby hindering their learning. The second mistake involves allowing children to miss school or be late without a valid reason. Chernyshova argues that this cultivates a lack of responsibility and discipline, which can manifest in later life as tardiness for exams, job interviews, and general disorganization at work. Thirdly, she cautions against excusing a child's reluctance to learn. By allowing children to study haphazardly, parents inadvertently strip them of the opportunity to develop resilience and the ability to exert effort when faced with challenges. The fourth error is the refusal to acknowledge a child's wrongdoings, such as lying or offending others. Chernyshova warns that this closes the path to sincerity, encouraging children to hide the truth and preventing them from learning valuable lessons from their mistakes. 'Not every child can achieve 10, 11, or 12 points,' she notes, advocating against forcing children to perform beyond their natural abilities.
