Guatemala: Vehicle Circulation Tax Deadline Nears, Only 42% Collected
Guatemala City, Guatemala - As the July 31, 2025, deadline for vehicle circulation tax approaches, authorities report that only 42% of the anticipated revenue has been collected. This figure, recorded as of mid-June, indicates a significant portion of vehicle owners have yet to fulfill their annual obligation. An expert from Telediario Guatemala highlighted the critical importance of timely payment. "If the tax is not paid on time, it incurs a 100% penalty of the amount due," the expert stated. He further explained that while there might be discussions about a possible extension, the current legal framework mandates payment by the end of July. "Any vehicle-related transaction, such as a transfer, cannot be completed without the current year's circulation tax being paid," he added, stressing the need for vehicle owners to remain compliant to avoid legal complications and penalties.
