Madrid's A-5 Highway Transformation: Tunnel Progress and Green Space Promise
Madrid's A-5 Highway Covering Project: Six Months of Progress Construction on the A-5 highway covering project in Madrid is progressing steadily, six months after its commencement. The project, a key initiative for the city, involves the creation of a 3.2-kilometer tunnel between Avenida de Portugal and Avenida de Padre Piqué. A significant milestone has been reached with the placement of over 1,650 support piles, representing 30% of the total 6,000 needed. This phase of the project is expected to be completed by 2027. "The works are progressing at a good pace," says a spokesperson for the project. "We are currently placing around 70 piles per day, and we are confident that we will meet our deadline." Telemadrid cameras captured footage from a resident's apartment, providing unique views of the construction site. The video shows the scale of the operation, with eight pile drivers, twenty excavators, and the ongoing construction of the retaining walls that will support the tunnel's roof. Once completed, this project will not only improve traffic flow but also create a new green space for local residents. The project's impact on local traffic is significant. Initially, eight lanes were reduced to four, causing some disruption. However, the project has now reached a stage where traffic flow is less affected, with two lanes in each direction being maintained throughout the construction period. The completion of the project is expected to significantly improve the quality of life for residents in the area.
