From Grass to Garden: Homeowner Transforms Yard with Innovative Sheet Mulching Method

A homeowner has successfully transformed a significant portion of their front yard from a water-intensive grass lawn into a thriving, diverse garden bed using the sheet mulching technique. The project, initiated on May 21st, involved laying down cardboard to suppress existing grass, followed by the addition of wood chips. Key plantings included an avocado tree and a pomegranate tree, alongside a variety of annuals and perennials such as zinnias, cosmos, celosia, yarrow, baptisia, and guara. By July 17th, less than two months later, the new garden bed was flourishing, demonstrating the rapid and effective results of the sheet mulching method. The gardener expressed satisfaction with the outcome, noting the method's success in creating a beautiful and productive space.
