Néstor Villanueva Sentenced for Violence Against Son: Community Service and Restraining Order Issued
Lima, Peru – Cumbia singer Néstor Villanueva has been sentenced by the Judicial Power for violence against his minor son. The court handed down a sentence of 1 year and 9 months of suspended prison, which has been converted into 640 days of community service. In addition to the community service, the ruling prohibits Villanueva from approaching his minor children and mandates that he undergo specialized treatment. The judge warned that failure to comply with the community service obligations will result in the revocation of the suspended sentence, leading to immediate imprisonment. The legal complaint was initially filed several years ago by Flor Polo, the mother of the children. This week, the court determined Villanueva's culpability in the violence against his son. This case has reignited public debate regarding how the justice system addresses family violence, particularly when the accused are public figures. It prompts questions about the sufficiency of community service sentences in such serious matters and the broader implications for public accountability.
