Homeless Mother and Autistic Son Receive Aid in Budapest Park After Losing Home
Budapest, Hungary – A 61-year-old woman, identified as Éva, and her 41-year-old autistic son have been living on the streets of Budapest for the past five days, primarily seeking shelter in Népliget park. Éva shared her harrowing story, explaining that a five-year inheritance dispute following her partner's death in 2021 led to the loss of her home and health insurance. "I lost my permanent address, and consequently, my health insurance," Éva stated, visibly distressed. "I am a disabled pensioner, and my pension is very small. Ninety thousand forints of my 180,000 forint pension goes to loan repayments, leaving us with only 90,000 forints for two people." Éva, who previously worked as a caregiver, expressed a strong desire to return to work but faces a significant barrier. "I want to work, but I cannot work from the street," she explained, referring to a letter she received stating that employment is not possible without a permanent address. She also mentioned her son's condition, stating, "My son is 41 years old and autistic. He has behavioral issues and is completely dependent on me." The Tündérkör Alapítvány (Tündérkör Foundation) visited Éva and her son in Népliget, providing them with essential supplies. A representative from the foundation handed them food, water, and a 40,000 forint Spar voucher. "We hope that those who saw this video will help them," the foundation representative said, providing a contact number for assistance. The foundation emphasized that the voucher is specifically for food and non-alcoholic beverages. Éva expressed her gratitude for the assistance, highlighting the challenges of living outdoors, especially with the hot weather. "It's hard to see my son's hand touching the ground and ants crawling on him," she tearfully added, emphasizing the emotional toll of their situation.
