A recent familiarization trip organized by the Malaysian Association of Tourist Agencies (MATA) aimed to highlight the region's potential as a halal-compliant travel destination. The four-day trip involved 30 representatives from Malaysian travel agencies and media outlets. They experienced firsthand the beauty of Guilin's rice terraces and serene Li River cruises. The presence of halal restaurants and prayer facilities in the area was also emphasized. A representative from Guilin's tourism board added, "We have Muslim restaurants, and the local government has made great efforts to adapt many hotels to facilitate Muslim travelers."
