Bolivia Freezes: Polar Cold Wave Brings Sub-Zero Temperatures
Bolivia Battles Sub-Zero Temperatures Amidst Polar Cold Wave LA PAZ, BOLIVIA – A polar cold wave has swept across Bolivia, plunging temperatures below zero in seven departments and prompting a red alert from the National Service of Meteorology and Hydrology (SENAMHI). The cold snap, which is expected to last until June 3rd, has brought unusually frigid conditions to regions not typically accustomed to such extreme weather. "The red alert is in effect due to the polar cold front," explained Marisól Portugal, a SENAMHI forecaster, in an interview featured in a UNITEL news report. "Tarija has already seen temperatures drop to -0.7°C, while La Paz has experienced lows of -7°C." The report showed images of people wrapped in heavy winter clothing, navigating icy streets. The cold has particularly impacted the Altiplano region, with reports of frost in various areas. Portugal emphasized the importance of taking precautions, advising people to dress warmly, especially during the early morning and evening hours. SENAMHI's forecast indicates that the severe cold will continue for several more days, urging Bolivians to remain vigilant and prepared for the challenging weather conditions. The government is working to ensure adequate resources are available to assist those most vulnerable to the cold.
