Bolivia Issues Red Alert as Polar Storm Brings Freezing Temperatures LA PAZ, BOLIVIA – May 29, 2025 – A red alert has been issued across Bolivia due to a polar storm that is expected to bring dangerously low temperatures to seven departments until June 3. The storm, originating in the South Pole and entering through Argentina, is impacting a total of 149 municipalities across the country. "This alert is in effect for 149 municipalities in seven departments," stated Juan Carlos Calvimontes, Vice Minister of Civil Defense, in a press briefing shown on Bolivia TV. He detailed the number of affected municipalities: Santa Cruz (56), La Paz (22), Beni (19), Pando (15), Chuquisaca (14), Cochabamba (14), and Tarija (9).
