La Paz, Bolivia – The Bolivian government has confirmed that there will be no long weekend in June, as the holiday scheduled for Friday, June 21st, will not be moved. Erland Rodríguez, the Minister of Labor, announced today that the government will not advance the holiday, which commemorates the Andean-Amazonian-Chaqueño New Year. Minister Rodríguez clarified that existing Supreme Decrees, specifically 2750 from May 1, 2016, and 5019 from September 13, 2023, regulate national holidays. These laws stipulate that only holidays falling on a Sunday can be transferred to the following Monday. Advancing a holiday to an earlier day is not permitted under current legislation. The minister acknowledged the public's widespread interest and the expectations generated by discussions surrounding a potential long weekend. He also noted that indigenous communities, whose traditions are central to the June 21st celebration, had expressed their opposition to any change in the holiday's date, emphasizing the importance of celebrating it on the designated day.
