Extreme cold, snowfalls, and frosts are causing widespread disruption and damage across Bolivia, affecting over 400,000 families and significantly impacting agricultural production. Authorities report that 7% of the nation's crops, primarily vegetables and tubers, have been damaged by the severe weather conditions. In Potosí, heavy snow has blocked access to the Eduardo Abaroa reserve, with snow depths exceeding one meter in some areas. Tarija has also experienced unusual snowfall, a rare event for the region, and recorded thermal sensations as low as -2°C. To date, six departments have been affected by frost, leading to 92 municipalities being declared in disaster and an additional 12 in emergency. The National Service of Meteorology and Hydrology (Senhami) warns that the coldest period of winter is yet to arrive, anticipating further cold fronts in the coming weeks.
