SANTA CRUZ, Bolivia – Public transport drivers in Santa Cruz are facing severe economic hardship due to a persistent diesel shortage, leading to extensive queues at fuel stations and substantial daily losses. Drivers report that the scarcity of fuel prevents them from operating their routes normally, causing significant financial strain and disrupting daily commutes for residents. Claudio Méndez, a bus driver, stated, "We continue to suffer from the diesel shortage every day, queuing up. It's impossible to work normally like before." Another driver highlighted the direct financial impact, estimating losses of "at least 350 Bolivianos" daily, explaining that they miss "at least three rounds a day." The shortage has resulted in fewer public transport units on the roads, particularly in the western zone of Santa Cruz near the third ring. Commuters, having completed their workdays, are left waiting at bus stops for extended periods, struggling to find transport to their homes. The situation underscores a growing concern for both the public transport sector and the general population in Santa Cruz.
