Bolivian Milk Production Plummets Amid Diesel and Feed Shortages

Bolivia's dairy industry is facing a severe crisis, with milk production experiencing a sharp decline, according to recent reports. Producers indicate a significant drop from 350,000 liters to just 230,000 liters daily. A representative from the dairy sector stated, "The dairy sector has been going through difficult times for a long time. We have seen a very strong drop in production." He further elaborated that the crisis is multifaceted, stemming from "regulations, scarcity of corn, scarcity of sorghum, scarcity of fuel, and, more than anything, scarcity of forage." These combined challenges have severely impacted the competitiveness of milk producers. The industry is now calling for urgent measures to restore previous production levels and explore opportunities for product export to generate foreign currency.
