    Experts Warn Against Mono-Diets: Understanding the Risks and Rebound Effect

    La Paz, Bolivia – A recent report by UNITEL.bo addresses the growing popularity and inherent dangers of mono-diets, a restrictive eating trend that involves consuming only one type of food for several days. Journalist Magelia Peralta explained that while these diets often promise rapid weight loss and body detoxification, the initial weight reduction is primarily due to the loss of water and muscle mass, not fat. "What is lost is mainly water and muscle mass, not fat," Peralta stated, highlighting that this often leads to a 'rebound effect' where individuals regain the lost weight once they return to normal eating habits. She further elaborated on the severe health risks associated with such extreme dietary restrictions. According to the report, mono-diets can result in essential nutrient deficiencies, negatively impact digestion and hormonal balance, and contribute to emotional distress. Furthermore, they carry the risk of developing serious eating disorders by fostering guilt and an obsession with control over food intake. "Beyond the lightness some claim to feel, there is no scientific evidence that mono-diets detoxify or improve health," Peralta emphasized, suggesting that any perceived benefits might be psychological or simply from avoiding ultra-processed foods.
