Kinahan Gang Figure Extradited, Appears in Irish Court
Alleged Kinahan Gang Member Appears in Court Dublin, Ireland – May 30, 2025 – Sean McGovern, a 39-year-old man identified by Gardaí as a senior member of the Kinahan organized crime group, appeared before the Special Criminal Court today. McGovern was extradited from Dubai overnight and charged with the murder of Noel Kirwan on December 22, 2016, in Clondalkin, and the attempted murder of James Gately. Detective Sergeant Donal O’Daly gave evidence of McGovern’s arrest at Casement Aerodrome and the subsequent charges. McGovern's barrister, Olan Callanan, indicated they were reserving their position on the lawfulness of his arrest and the court's jurisdiction. The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) requested McGovern be remanded in custody. While the barrister didn't object to this, they did request a video link appearance next Thursday, June 5th, from Portlaoise Prison. Mr. Justice Karen O’Connor granted this request. The charges against McGovern are serious and highlight the ongoing conflict between the Kinahan and Hutch organized crime groups. The case is expected to continue, with further court appearances scheduled.
