Seattle Shooting: Armed Citizen Kills Teen After Double Shooting
Seattle Shooting: Legally Armed Citizen Kills Teen Suspect A tragic incident unfolded in downtown Seattle on Wednesday night, May 29, 2025, when a 16-year-old boy opened fire, injuring two innocent bystanders. The teen was subsequently confronted by a 57-year-old man legally carrying a firearm, who shot and killed the suspect. One victim is now out of the hospital, while the other remains in stable condition. Seattle Police Chief Shon Barnes stated, "One individual produced a weapon, fired on two individuals, and then began to flee the scene." The incident is being reviewed under Washington's 'no duty to retreat' self-defense laws. Law enforcement analyst John Urquhart explained, "Washington is what they call a 'no duty to retreat' state. Other states call it 'stand your ground.' The idea is exactly the same: when a person is confronted by a bad guy, he is not required to back away or run away." The 57-year-old man who shot the teen is cooperating with the investigation and is not currently considered a suspect. Seattle Police are asking anyone with information to call their Violent Crimes Tip Line at 206-233-5000. The investigation is ongoing, and the prosecutor's office will determine whether the use of deadly force was legally justified.
