Belgium's Vives University Speeds Up Air Traffic Controller Training
Vives University in Belgium introduces a new, faster air traffic control training program. Starting September 2025, students can specialize as air traffic controllers in just one year, instead of the previous two years. This accelerated program is designed to address the high demand for air traffic controllers. The curriculum includes both theoretical knowledge and practical experience through simulations at Skyguide. One student, Ellen, shared her enthusiasm for the career, saying, "It's a job with a lot of responsibility, but it's something I want to do. It's an important job, and I want to be a part of it." The shorter program will help Vives students enter the workforce more quickly and contribute to filling the critical need for air traffic controllers in Belgium and beyond. The program director added, "With our specialized training, students get a solid theoretical foundation and practical experience at Skyguide, making them optimally prepared for the job market."
