PAS Demands Delay on Non-Subsidized Gas Cylinder Mandate in Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – May 29, 2025 – The Lajnah Hal Ehwal Konsumer dan Kepenggunaan PAS Pusat (HAKS) is calling for a delay in the implementation of mandatory non-subsidized gas cylinders. HAKS chairman, Khairul Nizam Khiruddin, expressed concerns about the potential economic and social impacts, stating, "A fair monitoring and enforcement mechanism is needed to ensure businesses don't resort to unreasonable price increases." The organization highlights that small businesses, especially outside urban centers, heavily rely on subsidies. A study shows that the change could increase daily operating costs by 30-50%, potentially leading to price increases and job losses. "Many small businesses risk closure or staff reductions due to rising operational costs," Nizam added. The government is urged to conduct a thorough study before proceeding with the policy change, ensuring a smooth transition and protecting vulnerable businesses and consumers.
