Sabah Government Focuses on Rural Economic Growth
Sabah Prioritizes Rural Development: Chief Minister Outlines Key Initiatives KOTA KINABALU, SABAH – The Sabah state government is focusing its efforts on strengthening the socio-economic conditions and well-being of its citizens, particularly those residing in rural areas. This commitment was underscored by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Haji Noor during a recent address at the 2025 State Celebration. "Among the main focuses of the Sabah Maju Jaya Development Plan is to support the development of rural areas to improve the well-being of the people," Datuk Seri Haji Noor stated. The plan, he explained, includes initiatives to modernize agriculture, encourage the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and develop community-based tourism. These initiatives aim to create more economic opportunities and improve the quality of life for those living outside of urban centers. The government recognizes the importance of empowering rural communities and ensuring they have access to resources and opportunities for sustainable growth. The focus on community-based tourism, in particular, aims to leverage Sabah's natural beauty and cultural heritage to generate income and create jobs for local residents. This approach is expected to not only boost the economy but also preserve Sabah's unique cultural identity. The long-term vision is to reduce economic disparity and create a more equitable society for all Sabahans.
