RM5.14 Million Vape Smuggling Ring Busted in Malaysia
Malaysian Customs authorities announced a major crackdown on illegal vape imports, seizing goods worth RM5.14 million in two separate operations during April 2025. The first raid, conducted on April 3rd at the North Butterworth Container Port, resulted in the confiscation of 14,200 vape devices and 210 liters of e-liquid. "The items were declared as plastic, wallets, and belts," stated Rohaizad Ali, Penang Customs Director, in a press conference. A second operation on April 10th at Port Klang yielded an additional 71,886 vape devices and 786 liters of e-liquid, along with electronic gel. Three individuals involved in the smuggling operation—an importer, an intermediary agent, and a port agent—were arrested. The case is being investigated under Section 133(1)(a) of the Customs Act 1967. This significant seizure highlights the ongoing battle against illegal imports and underscores the determination of Malaysian authorities to protect public health and revenue.
