Hari Raya Aidiladha Congestion at Rantau Panjang Border: Joy and Challenges
The Malaysian border town of Rantau Panjang experienced significant congestion at its ICQS complex this week, as thousands of Thai citizens returned home to celebrate Hari Raya Aidiladha. The influx of people, many traveling back to their villages for the holiday, caused significant delays at the complex. "It's wonderful to be home," said one Thai citizen, Adam Zakaria, in an interview with Berita RTM. However, he also noted the challenges, adding, "But with the traffic, I'm thinking I might come back for Raya another time." The Road Transport Department (JPJ) reported record-high compound payments, exceeding RM56 million, collected through the initiative of a flat-rate compound. Separately, the JPJ is also investigating a fatal accident involving an FRU truck, which resulted in nine casualties. The investigation is expected to be completed by the end of the month. Despite the congestion, the overall atmosphere reflected the joy of homecoming for many Thai families.
