Bolivia Issues Red Alert as Cold Front Brings Heavy Rains, Thunderstorms, and Potential Frost
LA PAZ, BOLIVIA—The Bolivian National Meteorological and Hydrological Service (SENAMHI) has issued a red alert for seven departments due to the arrival of a powerful cold front. The alert, issued on May 28, 2025, warns of heavy rains, thunderstorms, and the potential for frost in the valleys.
"The cold front is expected to bring significant temperature drops," said a SENAMHI spokesperson in an interview featured on Red Uno. "We are urging residents in the affected areas to take all necessary precautions."
Videos shared on social media show heavy rain and strong winds in several cities. The cold front is expected to persist through at least May 31st. Temperatures in the valleys are expected to be between 3°C and 12°C. The affected departments include Santa Cruz, Beni, Pando, La Paz, Cochabamba, Chuquisaca, and Tarija.
SENAMHI continues to monitor the situation and provide updates as the cold front progresses across the country. Residents are advised to stay informed and take steps to protect themselves and their property from the severe weather.
