Burkina Faso Modernizes Toll System: Sensors to Optimize Revenue for Road Maintenance
Burkina Faso Implements New Toll System for Heavy Vehicles Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso – In a significant development, the Burkina Faso government announced a new toll system for heavy vehicles on May 28, 2025. The changes, explained by Minister of Infrastructure Adama Luc Sorgho, involve using sensors to determine fees based on the number of axles. This innovation, according to Sorgho, will improve toll collection and generate more funds for road maintenance. "We have installed sensors that identify the number of axles," Sorgho stated in a press conference. "Based on this, the tariffs are applied, ranging from 1500 to 3000 francs." The new system will specifically target heavy vehicles, while light vehicles and pickup trucks will remain at 200 and 300 francs, respectively. The decision is expected to streamline toll collection and significantly increase revenue for road infrastructure projects across the country. This modernization aims to improve the efficiency and fairness of the toll system and contribute to the overall improvement of Burkina Faso's road network.
