Dominican Republic Launches 'Renacer Contigo' Program to Aid Informal Vendors

Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic – May 21, 2025 – The director of Proyectos Estratégicos y Especiales de la Presidencia (Propeep), Robert Polanco, announced the "Renacer Contigo" program, a comprehensive government initiative designed to uplift the lives of informal vendors in Greater Santo Domingo. This sector comprises more than half of the nation's workforce. The event, held in Los Tres Brazos, Santo Domingo Este, shed light on the economic challenges faced by many Dominicans. "More than 54% of Dominican families depend exclusively on informal activities for their livelihood," stated Polanco, highlighting the need for inclusive economic development. The program aims to provide training, financial access, and other support to informal vendors.
