
Dominican Republic to Expand Border Wall Construction in June
Dominican Republic's Defense Minister Announces Next Phase of Border Wall Construction Pedernales, Dominican Republic – May 29, 2025 – Lieutenant General Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre, Minister of Defense, today visited the Pedernales border region to assess the progress of the ongoing border wall construction. During his visit, General Onofre stated, "In June, we will begin the second phase of the wall in La Sala, Dajabón, continuing to Capotillo." This next phase will add 13 kilometers to the existing structure. The Minister emphasized the commitment to securing the Dominican border. He said, "The border is completely secure, and the work our soldiers are doing is efficient." His visit included inspections of the perimeter fence and discussions with military personnel deployed along the border. The video footage showed soldiers on patrol and sections of the completed wall. The project aims to enhance security and provide peace of mind for residents in border communities.
