A local gardener, known online as Chrishell | Sahm + Gardener, recently demonstrated an effective organic pest control method for kale using companion planting. In a video uploaded on April 30, 2025, Chrishell showcased a thriving kale plant growing alongside sage, highlighting its pristine, pest-free leaves. This contrasts sharply with another kale plant in her garden, which was heavily infested with cabbage worms, the larval stage of cabbage moths. Chrishell explained that cabbage moths, often mistaken for butterflies, lay eggs that hatch into these destructive worms. To manage the infestation on her other kale, she manually removes the worms, collecting them in a jar. "I normally just pick them off and feed them to my birds," she stated in the video, adding that they "will soon be the perfect snacks for my ducks." The video emphasizes the significant difference companion planting can make in a garden, offering a natural and sustainable solution for common brassica pests.
