Bucharest, Romania – Political analyst and journalist Cozmin Gușă has publicly scrutinized the recent autobiography and interview of controversial media mogul Dan Voiculescu, asserting that Voiculescu's account of his past and influence in Romanian politics is largely a fabrication. In a recent video, Gușă, who describes himself as a "sovereignist journalist," offered a critical "evaluation grid" for viewers engaging with Voiculescu's narrative, which he characterizes as an attempt to "rewrite history." Gușă, who claims to have worked directly with Voiculescu for three years and gained insight from figures like General Iulian Vlad (the last head of Securitate under Ceaușescu), stated, "Dan Voiculescu lies from head to toe" regarding his ascent to power and wealth. He specifically challenged Voiculescu's claims of being a "dissident" who started his foreign trade business with a mere $40,000 saved from a $7 daily allowance before 1989. Gușă emphasized that such an independent venture was impossible under the communist regime without state backing, implying a deeper connection to the Securitate. The analyst further highlighted Voiculescu's interactions with all Romanian presidents post-1989, suggesting that these leaders sought Voiculescu's significant media influence rather than his personal counsel. Gușă concluded that Voiculescu was an "emanate of a group of Securitate agents" who seized national assets, characterizing him as a "professional securist" with sophisticated, albeit self-serving, approaches. He proposed a "journalistic gathering" to genuinely discuss Voiculescu's true history, involving individuals who had direct dealings with him, implicitly excluding those he considers "well-trained professional slaves" of Voiculescu's media empire.
