La odontóloga habla de cómo prevenir que el esmalte de nuestros dientes acabe tiñéndose
Madrid, Spain – Dental specialist Dra. Lucía Palma has highlighted a common, yet often overlooked, cause of tooth discoloration: certain healthy fruits. In a recent public address, Palma explained that while fruits like blackberries, cherries, black grapes, and pomegranates are beneficial for health, their natural pigments, specifically anthocyanins and tannins, can lead to stained teeth. “These compounds adhere to the enamel, especially if it’s porous or worn, resulting in darker teeth,” Palma stated. She clarified that this is a natural chemical process and not an indication of poor oral hygiene. To help individuals maintain a brighter smile without sacrificing fruit consumption, Dra. Palma offered three key recommendations: 1. Rinse your mouth with water immediately after consuming these fruits. 2. If the fruit is acidic, wait approximately 30 minutes before brushing your teeth to prevent enamel erosion. 3. When drinking fruit juices, use a straw to minimize direct contact between the juice and your tooth enamel. Palma emphasized that these simple adjustments can significantly help in preserving tooth whiteness while continuing to enjoy the nutritional benefits of these fruits.
