Airfare Prices Plummet Between Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic Thanks to Open Skies Agreement
Dominican Republic Celebrates Open Skies Success with US: Airfares Plummet Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic - The Dominican Republic is celebrating a significant win for its tourism sector following the implementation of an open skies agreement with the United States. Tourism Minister David Collado recently announced the positive results, highlighting a dramatic decrease in airfares between Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. "For less than three hundred dollars, you can connect Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic," Collado stated during a press conference. "How was it possible that an air ticket between these two countries cost seven hundred and eight hundred dollars? It's only a forty-minute flight." This demonstrates the effectiveness of the agreement in boosting tourism and making travel more affordable. The agreement has already shown remarkable results. In 2024 alone, 257,000 Puerto Ricans traveled to the Dominican Republic by air, making Puerto Rico one of the top five sources of tourists for the country. A joint marketing campaign between the two countries is scheduled to launch in July to further promote tourism. This initiative is expected to bring even more visitors to both destinations. This development marks a significant milestone in the Dominican Republic's tourism industry. The lower airfares are expected to attract a larger number of tourists and contribute to the economic growth of the country.
