EDSA's 8-Billion Peso Makeover: Modernization and Flood Control Begin June 13th
EDSA Rebuilding Project to Begin June 13th: 8 Billion Peso Investment Promises Modernization and Flood Prevention Metro Manila, Philippines – A major infrastructure project aimed at revitalizing Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA), the country's busiest thoroughfare, is set to commence on June 13th. The 8-billion-peso undertaking promises a modernized EDSA, free from the persistent flooding that plagues the area. The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Manuel Bonoan stated, "We will adopt the latest technologies on concrete mix, creating a durable pavement to ensure smooth traffic flow." To manage the expected traffic congestion during the reconstruction, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will implement an odd-even number plate scheme. MMDA Chairman Romando Artes explained, "This is a dry run for the odd-even scheme, to ease the heavy traffic during the project. We will be monitoring and adjusting as needed, but will not issue tickets during this initial phase." The project will involve replacing existing pavements, creating a flood-free system, and improving bus lanes. While some lanes will be temporarily reduced, bus operations will continue through designated lanes. The DPWH aims to complete the EDSA bus lane improvements by December. This ambitious project signifies a significant investment in improving Metro Manila's infrastructure and promises a more efficient and resilient transportation system for the future.
