EDSA Rehab: Free Skyway Tolls & Odd-Even Scheme to Ease Traffic Chaos
Metro Manila Prepares for EDSA Rehabilitation: Five Traffic Interventions Unveiled Metro Manila, Philippines – The Department of Transportation (DOTr), Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced five key traffic interventions to manage expected congestion during the upcoming EDSA rehabilitation. The rehabilitation, slated to begin in July or August 2025, will cause significant disruption, prompting the agencies to implement a multi-pronged approach. One key measure is the offer of free passage on Skyway Stage 3. This is intended to divert traffic away from EDSA. MMDA Chairman Atty. Romando Artes explained, "We're making Skyway Stage 3 toll-free to provide an alternative route for those who don't need to use EDSA." Additionally, an odd-even number coding scheme will be implemented on EDSA. This will restrict vehicles based on their license plate numbers on specific days. Artes also noted plans to increase the number of trains on the MRT3 line and add more buses to the EDSA Busway to boost public transportation capacity. The agencies are working closely with stakeholders to ensure smooth traffic flow during the rehabilitation. The goal is to minimize disruption and keep the city moving. The success of this plan will be crucial for the overall success of the EDSA project, ensuring minimal disruption to the lives of commuters.
