
Tourist Drugged, Robbed in Makati: 5 Suspects Arrested
Makati Robbery Highlights Tourist Vulnerability A French tourist, identified only as Matthew, recently fell victim to a drugging and robbery in Makati, Philippines. The incident occurred on May 25th when Matthew, while sightseeing, was approached by a group who offered him a tour. According to Matthew, "They were really friendly, so I just trusted them." However, at some point, he felt an injection in his arm, and subsequently lost consciousness, waking up to discover his money and phone were gone. The total loss amounted to 96,000 pesos and his cellphone. Police, utilizing a phone tracking app, successfully located and apprehended five suspects, one of whom is a senior citizen. Police Colonel Jean Dela Torre, Acting Chief of Police, Makati CPS, stated, "One of the female suspects is implicated in the method of administering the drug, possibly mixing it with water before giving it to the victim." The Makati Police Department has increased their visibility in response to this incident, aiming to deter similar crimes. The case serves as a reminder to tourists to exercise caution and be aware of their surroundings while traveling in unfamiliar areas.
