The suspects, described as a group of elderly men and women, allegedly befriended their victims before drugging them and stealing their valuables. Once a level of trust was established, the suspects would drug their victims, rendering them unconscious. They would then steal cash, phones, and other valuables. "Their modus operandi was to befriend the victims, then drug them and steal their belongings," stated Police Chief Jean Dela Torre in an interview included in the News5 report. "We were able to track them down using the GPS on a stolen cellphone." The arrest of the suspects was made possible by the quick thinking of one victim, whose stolen cellphone had GPS tracking enabled. This allowed police to trace the phone's location and apprehend the suspects. While police recovered the stolen phone, the victim's wallet remains missing. The suspects are currently facing charges of robbery and are being investigated for other possible crimes. The successful arrest of this robbery ring highlights the importance of using technology to combat crime and the effectiveness of international cooperation in apprehending criminals.
