Sheinbaum Affirms INE Autonomy and Democratic Elections, Rejects Authoritarianism Claims
MEXICO CITY – Claudia Sheinbaum, a prominent political figure, today reiterated her stance on the National Electoral Institute (INE), asserting that it must remain an autonomous body. Speaking from a podium at a public event, Sheinbaum emphasized the significant financial investment made by the Mexican people in their electoral processes. "The INE continues as an autonomous body, it has to continue that way," Sheinbaum stated. She further elaborated on the public's commitment, noting, "It is a lot of resources that the people of Mexico spend, that the people of Mexico allocate for elections." Sheinbaum also underscored the collective desire for transparent and fair electoral outcomes. "We want there to continue to be clean, democratic elections," she affirmed. Addressing criticisms, she directly refuted allegations of authoritarian tendencies. "It is false, false, false, false that we are an authoritarian government, that we are seeking authoritarianism," she declared. Her remarks come amid ongoing public discourse regarding the future of electoral institutions and governance in Mexico.
