Massive Cannabis Bust at KLIA: RM1 Million Worth of Drugs Seized
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – In a major blow to drug trafficking in Malaysia, authorities have seized a significant quantity of cannabis at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). The operation, conducted by the enforcement division of the Jabatan Kastam Diraja Malaysia (JKDM), resulted in the seizure of approximately 10.055 kilograms of cannabis, estimated to be worth nearly RM993,936. According to Penolong Ketua Pengarah JKDM (Penguatkuasaan) Raizam Setapa, "The operation was based on information received from customs officers at KLIA's mail and courier center." The six separate seizures involved various packages, some disguised to avoid detection. The investigation is ongoing under section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries severe penalties, including the death penalty. This successful operation underscores the commitment of Malaysian authorities in tackling the illicit drug trade and ensuring public safety.
