Terengganu Lottery Scam: 12 Cases, RM250,000 Lost Terengganu, Malaysia – Police in Terengganu are investigating a series of lottery scams that have resulted in losses exceeding RM250,000. Twelve cases are currently under investigation, involving victims who fell prey to fake online links designed to mimic legitimate bank websites. This phishing scam targeted individuals through social media, leading to significant financial losses. One victim, a teacher, lost RM5,499 after clicking a link on Facebook. "I received a message about a lottery win and clicked the link without thinking," the teacher recounted. Another victim, a businesswoman, reported losing RM41,110 to the same scam. Assistant Commissioner Azli Mohamad Noor, head of the Kuala Terengganu District Police, stated that all reports received since January involve a total loss exceeding RM250,000. He urged the public to exercise caution and verify any online offers directly with financial institutions to avoid similar scams. The police investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to identify and apprehend those responsible for the scam. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of online safety and the need to be vigilant against phishing attempts.
