

Major Drug Bust in Pontian: Unemployed Man Faces Death Penalty
Unemployed Man Charged with Drug Trafficking in Pontian, Malaysia Pontian, Johor, Malaysia – An unemployed 35-year-old man, Lau Kiat Lim, appeared before the Pontian Magistrate's Court on June 25th, 2025, facing four charges related to drug trafficking and possession. The charges involve a significant quantity of drugs, including 6.4 kilograms of various substances, discovered at his residence in Taman Mutiara last month. According to the prosecution, Lim was charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a potential death sentence or life imprisonment. Three additional charges, under Section 12(2) of the same act, relate to possession of drugs and carry a maximum sentence of five years' imprisonment or a fine of up to RM100,000, or both. Lim pleaded not guilty to three of the charges. "The court has denied bail and ordered the accused to secure legal representation," stated Magistrate Arina Azmin Ahmad Marzuki. A further hearing is scheduled for August 5th, pending the completion of a chemical analysis report. The arrest was announced by Johor Police Chief Datuk M.
