Penang Airport Drug Bust: RM1.6 Million Worth of Cannabis Seized Penang, Malaysia – In a major blow to drug trafficking, the Royal Malaysian Customs Department announced the seizure of 16.2 kilograms of cannabis at Penang International Airport on March 4, 2025. The drugs, with an estimated street value of RM1.6 million, were concealed within a suitcase arriving from China. Customs Director Rohaizad Ali stated, "The bag was discovered by officers at the passenger screening branch at 11:35 AM." This significant find underscores the department's ongoing vigilance in combating drug smuggling. In a related operation, an additional 2.2 kg of cannabis was seized, valued at RM219,128, on April 16th. This discovery was made using drug-sniffing dogs. Both cases are under investigation. The successful seizures demonstrate the effectiveness of collaborative efforts between various agencies in disrupting drug trafficking networks.
