Against All Odds: Hiker Survives 3 Weeks in Snowy Sierra Nevada
A Hiker's Miraculous Survival: Three Weeks Lost in the Sierra Nevada 28-year-old Tiffany Slaton's ordeal began on April 20th when she fell off a cliff during a three-day hiking trip in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California. The fall left her unconscious for two hours, and with a severely injured knee, she was unable to call for help. Facing harsh conditions including multiple snowstorms, Slaton relied on her foraging skills to survive. She found edible plants and melted snow to create pine needle tea for vitamins and minerals. "Nature is quite terrifying," Slaton shared at a press conference with her parents. "Once you start finding things that are scary for you, you do your best to keep moving and get over it." The Fresno County Sheriff's office launched a wide-ranging search, covering nearly 600 square miles. However, heavy snowfall significantly hampered their efforts. Slaton's incredible journey ended when she stumbled upon the Vermillion Resort and found refuge in an unlocked cabin. The resort owner, who leaves his cabins unlocked for emergencies, discovered Slaton and contacted authorities. Slaton's mother, Fredina, described the reunion as "the most joyous occasion any mother could have." Slaton, a traveling dialysis technician and archery coach, is now recovering with her family in Georgia, hoping this was her last long outdoor adventure.
