Lema, who initially moved to Germany with high expectations of a progressive and innovative society, described her experience as "much worse than I could have imagined." Lema recounted her time as an au pair in the affluent Rodenkirchen district of Cologne, a period she described as living in a "bubble." However, her subsequent experiences painted a different picture. She claimed that integration in the city was "practically impossible," noting that in her area, less than 50% of Germans had both parents born in Germany. More disturbingly, she alleged that native German children were being bullied. The Spanish expat also highlighted a perceived "normalization" of drug use and crime. She vividly described witnessing a fatal shooting, which she attributed to a "settling of scores," shortly after disembarking a train. Furthermore, Lema recalled an incident during a school excursion to Neumarkt, a central area in Cologne, where she had to actively shield children from individuals openly consuming drugs. "The police couldn't do anything because the problem is completely out of control; it's too many people," she stated, referring to visible drug use in public. Lema expressed a profound sense of insecurity, recounting a moment of fear in an elevator with a German man who was also visibly nervous, leading her to question, "If this German man is trembling, what am I supposed to do?"
