Ghana's 2025 Free SHS Selection: Parents Urged to Guide Students' Choices
Ghana's 2025 Free SHS Selection Process Opens: Guidelines and Key Information Ghana's Ministry of Education recently opened the selection process for the 2025 Free Senior High School (SHS) program, running from May 27th to June 11th, 2025. This initiative aims to provide free secondary education to eligible students. The selection process involves students choosing seven schools, with clear guidelines on how to prioritize their choices based on category (A, B, C) and program type (day or boarding). According to the National Coordinator of the Free SHS program, Benita Sena Okity-Duah, "Candidates who wish to offer purely TVET programs must select all five TVET institutions from Categories A, B, and C." This highlights the government's commitment to technical and vocational education. The guidelines also stipulate that students can't choose more than one school from Category A or two from Category B, but they can select all five from Category C. Parents are urged to assist their children in making informed choices, as the placement decision will be final. The Ministry of Education has provided online resources and support to help students and parents navigate the selection process. Successful applicants will receive confirmation of their placement in their chosen school. This program is a significant step towards ensuring accessible and quality secondary education for all Ghanaian children.
