Adrian Cozma, a prominent Romanian figure, delivered a solemn address at Ip, marking the 85th anniversary of the horrific 1940 massacres in Ip and Treznea. During his speech, Cozma commemorated the 157 martyrs from Ip and 86 from Treznea who were tragically killed on September 14, 1940. He underscored that their sole 'offense' was their Romanian identity. Cozma stated, "The 1940 massacre remains a wound of history and a lesson for the present." He drew stark parallels between the historical loss of one-third of Romania's territory and the abandonment of Romanians in Transylvania, Bessarabia, and Bukovina, and current geopolitical tensions. Warning of contemporary threats, Cozma observed, "We see the same black clouds over the sky of Europe," referencing Russian drones entering Romanian territory, the presence of mines in the Black Sea, and Moldova's ongoing struggle for liberation from Russian influence. He urged for vigilance and a commitment to learning from the past to foster a society built on unity, dignity, and mutual respect. The address concluded with a heartfelt remembrance of the victims.
