Belarus Rivers Flood After Heavy Rains
Following the recent heavy rainfall in Belarus, water levels in many rivers are rising significantly. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection reports that the Berezina River near Bobruisk has seen the most dramatic increase, with a 58cm rise in just 24 hours. "The situation is being closely monitored," a ministry spokesperson stated. Other rivers, such as the Western Dvina and Pripyat, are also experiencing substantial increases. While this improves conditions for river transport in some areas, hydrologists warn of potential flooding in the Viliya and Berezina basins by the end of May. The ministry is advising residents in flood-prone areas to take precautions. The rising water levels, while a concern, also highlight the importance of water resources management in Belarus.
