Bolivian Man Sentenced to 30 Years for Attempted Infanticide and Rape After Friend's Murder

Santa Cruz, Bolivia – An 18-year-old man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for attempted infanticide and aggravated rape of his 9-year-old niece, following the murder of his friend with an axe. The incident, which has deeply shaken the department of Santa Cruz, occurred in the Pedro Lorenzo community, within the municipality of La Guardia.According to reports from the Special Force to Fight Crime (FELCC) in Santa Cruz, the perpetrator first attacked and killed his friend while he was sleeping, after they had consumed alcoholic beverages. The victim was reportedly struck multiple times with an axe to the head, losing consciousness before his body was dragged and concealed in a septic tank.Tragically, the 9-year-old niece witnessed the initial crime. To eliminate her as a witness, the suspect then assaulted her, inflicting a blow to her head that caused her to lose consciousness, before proceeding with the aggravated rape and leaving her in the same septic tank.The Public Ministry charged the individual with attempted infanticide and aggravated rape. Upon confessing to the crimes and accepting responsibility for the offenses, a judge handed down the 30-year sentence. The judicial process for the murder charge is scheduled to continue this Tuesday.
