Santa Cruz, Bolivia – An elderly man was successfully rescued today after being trapped for over an hour in an uncovered manhole on Av. Piraí. The incident, which occurred between the second and third rings, saw passersby and local residents quickly come to the aid of the man before emergency services arrived. According to witnesses, the man, identified as an elderly individual, fell into the manhole, which residents claim has been uncovered for over a month. "He was screaming for help," stated a young man who was among the first to assist, adding that he and another woman sought ways to help the man and immediately called firefighters. Upon arrival, emergency personnel worked to extract the man from the sewage opening. A rescuer confirmed the man was conscious and stable but noted he was being monitored for hypothermia due to the prolonged submersion in the damp environment. Further medical evaluation by a specialist is recommended. Local residents expressed their ongoing concerns about the hazardous manhole, explaining that it is often covered only by branches or plastic, which easily blow away. One resident recounted a near-incident where her child almost fell into the same hole. They hope for a permanent solution from the relevant authorities following this alarming event.
