A thrift shopping trip at a Goodwill turned into a customer service nightmare that left a shopper questioning whether she'll ever return.
A shopper in Castle Rock, Colorado, has publicly shared an account of what she describes as her "worst shopping experience ever" at a local Goodwill store. Sarah Mares detailed an incident on September 23, 2025, where she attempted to purchase two men's black leather jackets. One, an Eddie Bauer brand, was priced at $14.99, while another, a no-name brand, was listed at $54. Mares sought a price adjustment, either a match or a 50% discount, on the more expensive item due to the significant price difference between seemingly similar items. According to Mares, a cashier initially seemed amenable, but a manager, described as a young woman in a squirrel costume, reportedly refused the request. The manager allegedly stated that the $14.99 jacket was "marked incorrectly" and should have been priced higher, rather than adjusting the higher-priced item. Mares expressed significant frustration with the manager's "unprofessionalism" and "rudeness," stating she regularly donates to and shops at Goodwill but is now reconsidering her patronage. Goodwill Industries International has not yet issued a public statement regarding the incident.
