A recent social media video by certified nutritionist "Simply Mander" has sparked discussion regarding Starbucks' newly launched line of "protein" beverages. In her detailed review, Mander sampled various offerings, including the Iced Vanilla Protein Latte, Iced Protein Matcha, Iced Banana Cream Protein Matcha, and Chocolate Cream Protein Cold Brew, providing an expert perspective on their nutritional profiles and taste. The nutritionist expressed concern over the caloric and fat content of some drinks, noting that despite their "protein" branding, they may not align with health-conscious goals. "These nutrition facts are wild," Mander stated, highlighting that a Grande Iced Vanilla Cream Protein Latte contains 390 calories and 21 grams of fat. She emphasized the importance of scrutinizing nutrition labels, advising consumers that "just because something is 'high protein' doesn't always mean that it's low calories." While acknowledging the appeal of convenient protein options, Mander suggested more controlled alternatives for protein intake, such as adding Fairlife milk or protein powder to coffee prepared at home. She found the regular Iced Protein Matcha to be palatable, tasting similar to its non-protein version, but was less impressed by the Iced Banana Cream Protein Matcha, despite its unexpected flavor. The Chocolate Cream Protein Cold Brew was described as merely tasting like chocolate milk. Mander concluded by reiterating that while the initiative to offer protein-enhanced drinks is a good idea in theory, consumers tracking calories or macros should be mindful. "Not all of these are calorically friendly," she warned, particularly concerning the full-fat and full-carb options. The video serves as a critical examination of popular health trends and encourages informed consumer choices.
