Bydgoszcz, Poland – A recent incident at a hair salon in Bydgoszcz has sparked discussion on consumer rights after a client reported being overcharged and receiving unsatisfactory service. The client, who wished to cover her grey hair, initially booked a 'demanding coloring' service for an estimated 270 PLN. However, the final bill unexpectedly rose to 580 PLN, including additional charges for conditioner and a haircut that was not fully agreed upon. The client stated that the hairdresser suggested highlights, which did not effectively cover her grey hair. Furthermore, despite her request for only a trim, approximately 20 centimeters of her hair were cut using a machine without her explicit consent or prior notification of an additional charge. Upon disputing the inflated price and the quality of the service, the client received offensive messages from the salon owner, who reportedly stated, 'My salon, my rules and my prices. If a lady is looking for savings, maybe she should save on food.' In response to the incident, the client's partner consulted the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK). A lawyer from UOKiK confirmed that businesses, including hair salons, are legally obligated to inform clients of all additional paid services and any price increases during the service. This case serves as a reminder for consumers to be vigilant and aware of their rights when receiving services.
