Washington D.C. – An Uber Eats delivery driver was reportedly detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Washington D.C. on August 17, 2025, during a food delivery. The incident, documented by the customer who ordered the food, highlights concerns about immigration enforcement and language barriers. According to the customer, the driver was initially pulled over because his moped's license plate did not register correctly in the ICE system. The customer, who went to investigate after noticing his delivery was delayed, arrived to find approximately eight to nine ICE officers questioning the driver. The customer stated that the ICE agents eventually acknowledged that there were no issues with the moped's registration, insurance, or license. However, the driver, who reportedly spoke Arabic and not English, was unable to explain how he entered the country. Consequently, the agents proceeded to detain him. The video footage shows the driver being handcuffed on a residential street. The incident has sparked a discussion online regarding the circumstances of the detention and the role of language in such encounters.
